Blacketyside Fruits is a family run business. The Todd family have been running the fruit farm for over 20 years. Their farm grows approx 130 acres of soft fruit together with oats and barley. They also have a farm shop, tearoom and very popular Pick Your Own during summer months & they aim to source as many as possible of their products locally in order to reduce food miles.
The Blacketyside Fruits required an energy-efficient refrigeration solution, suitable for fresh produce, to rapidly cool the fruits down to 3°C in the specified time of 2 to 3 hours. The rapid chill facility greatly increases the shelf life of the produce.
Adcock’s extensive knowledge and expertise in chilling of fresh produce has resulted in gaining the order for this project despite being more expensive than the local competitors.
In the words of John Ruskin: “It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.” John Ruskin (1819-1900) Founder of The Guild of St George, a charitable education trust – an organisation that endures today.
