Save the Children charity cycle raises over £100k !
In true charitable spirit, two of our staff members have completed an incredible charity bike ride which took them on a staggering 500km journey from Vietnam to Cambodia.
Paul Brant (Deputy MD) and Steve Maclennan (Reading Branch Manager) undertook the challenge to raise £6,000 for Save the Children, a vital cause that brings aid and support to needy children around the globe.
The event was organised by Mitsubishi Electric, taking the team from Saigon to Angkor Wat and our brave guys have raised a whopping £8,395! The full team of 25 cycled 550km with the aim of raising £100,000 which has now been exceeded.

Save the Children.
When disaster strikes, there is no time to lose. Save the Children responds quickly to save children’s lives wherever disaster strikes. We are seeing more emergencies around the world than ever before. While some make the headlines, others are forgotten, but in every crisis children supper most of all. In 2013 we responded to 119 emergencies in 48 counties.
Your donations will go directly to help children caught up in emergencies:
- £25 can buy a hygiene kit for a family of five with buckets, towels, soap, toothbrushes and toilet paper.
- £40 can buy 24 buckets to help families carry clean water.
- £140 can provide families with emergency kits, to help them survive devastating cyclones and storms
Here is the route the team undertook....phew!
Here are a few words from one of the team bloggers that summarise how they felt after the event....
HI everybody back home in the UK and Ireland
The job is done. 550km in six days which inluded the following issues: sickness, tummy trouble , hospitals (me), stiches (sorry me again), extreme heat and humidity, difficult surfaces (have you ever tried to ride on sand!!), crashes, dogs, chickens in the road, cows in the road, maniacs on scooters, children walking aimlessly in front of you............i'm sure you get the picture.
This group of people have been absolutely amazing and the time and experience we have shared will never be forgotten by any of us. We have laughed and cried in equal amounts.
i would also like to thank all the people that have sponsored this team and the fact we have managed to get over £100k in sponsorship which is a new record. An amazing achievement so thank you eveybody who has sponsored all the team here.
We have seen where this money goes and i promise you that it is money very well spent make no mistake.
