R22 Refrigerant Phase Out

The Phase Out Of R22 Refrigerant
- Will It Impact On Your Business?

Under EU Ozone Regulation EC2037/2000, by the end of 2009 the use of virgin R22 refrigerant will be banned, but it will be permissible to use recycled R22 for maintenance purposes until the end of 2014. However, there is no guarantee on the quality and availability of the refrigerant and industry experts are predicting stocks of recycled R22 to be depleted well before the end of 2014 which will inevitably result in a steep increase in the cost of the available refrigerant.

Equipment using R22, whilst efficient at the time of installation, uses considerably more energy than the latest refrigeration and air conditioning plant that utilises non-HCFC refrigerants, such as R410a and R407c, in some instances this can be more than a 50% reduction.

If you own refrigeration or air conditioning equipment operating on R22 Refrigerant, we would strongly advise that you consider reviewing your options in order to minimise the impact on your organisation, both operationally and financially.

The Adcock Group has extensive experience in assisting clients plan for the R22 phase out. We can provide an audit of your air conditioning and refrigeration systems which will enable us to determine the most suitable action to ensure that not only will your company comply with the legislation but also facilitate you in saving money through significantly reduced energy costs.
