Adcock complete the Chariots of Fire race for a Second Year
We pleased to announce that three Adcock teams have completed the 2017 Chariots of Fire run, Cambridgeshire’s largest annual charity event. Teams of six each run a 1.7 mile course through central Cambridge in relay format. The event took place on Sunday 17th September.
All money raised through the 2017 Chariots of Fire race is going to Alzheimer’s Research UK. It will support a vital project at the University of Cambridge exploring why people with Down’s Syndrome develop Alzheimer’s.
Last year Alzheimer’s overtook heart disease as the leading cause of death in England and Wales and there are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today, a number forecast to hit one million in the next decade.
Around 50% of people with Down’s syndrome develop Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia by their 50s and there are 40-60,000 people in the UK with Down’s syndrome. The money raised will fund research in to preventative treatment, not only for people with Down’s Syndrome but will also benefit everyone affected by Alzheimer’s.
This year, we are entered three Adcock teams. We had two male teams from our Cambridge branch, Adcock Cool Stars and Adcock Hot Shots and a mixed team from the Head Office, Adcock 1964 Vintage.
So far we have raised £1397 for Alzhiemers Research UK, beating our targed of £800. If you didn't get time to sponsor us before the event, there is still time to make a donation through our Justgiving page.
Thank you to B M Kempton Ltd, J Z Electricals, Urban Signs Solutions Ltd, Perfect Cooling Solutions, D H Barker Ltd, Churchill Commisioning, J & G Services, Greenace Contract Cleaners, H & V 200 Ltd, Archway Events and other individuals for your generous donations.
We had a lot of fun taking part in the event and training has already started for next year.
